Divided into four major neighbourhoods, The Portugal capital consists of Chiado, Alfama, Praca do Comercio and Baixa or the Downtown zone. Chiado is characterized with many historical streets with souvenir shops and boutiques, pleasant open-air cafes and night clubs.
In Alfama is concentrated the Muslim population of the city, the streets are irregular and the buildings are close to one another. The Baixa zone has planned layout as it was rebuilt after a major earthquake in 1755. In the last, fourth neighbourhood Praca do Comercio is set a large square which is facing the river and is preferred place to meet friends.
